Workshop 1 (Panel Discussion):


The integration of Value Analysis in the development process of products, services and projects

Panel Moderator: Mr. Hieu Nguyen, VE and product development specialist

Panel Speakers:

  • Mrs. Nathalie Provost, Engineer: Public Curator of Quebec - Services in the public sector
  • Mrs. Chantal Dion, Engineer: Hatch Engineering - Construction projects sector
  • Mr. Mike DiLillo, Engineer: Thomas & Betts - Manufacturing sector

Panellists will each present the use of value engineering tools in the development of their respective product, project or service.

Following the panellists, the Quebec Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Exportation will present the programs it has to encourage innovation in product, service and project development.

Presentations will be followed by a discussion of the effectiveness use of VE/VM tools.

Questions from participants will be welcomed by the speakers after their respective presentations.

 

Workshop 2 (Training Session):


Value Analysis for beginners – introduction to the methodology

Instructor: René Donais, Eng., CVS (biography)

The objective of this training session is to gain a basic understanding of what Value Analysis is. In addition, participants will be invited to contribute their real life experience to the session. The following are themes that will be discussed:
  • The notion of value and the basic principles of value analysis
  • Function Analysis applied to various contexts
  • Function characterization
  • Cost per function and Worth Analysis
  • Value ratio and diagnoses
  • Creativity
  • Evaluation techniques
  • Recommendation and presentation
After the training, participants should know how to use Value Analysis in their own organization and calculate the expected benefits. Specifically, the training will allow participants to:
  • Better understand why Value Analysis is a distinct approach
  • Know how Value Analysis can increase the competitiveness of your organization
  • Evaluate the benefits that this approach can bring to the organization in the short term

Case studies in Value Analysis are done in conjunction with the McGill University Engineering department. All case studies will be presented in English.
